MENTORS
Programme Involved in : Youth-In-Action (YIA)
Brief Description of Programme:
- Targeted @ youths aged between 10 and 17 yrs old.
- It is a programme that helps youths to build confidence, character and nurture their leadership potential
- Through mentoring and various developmental activities, these youths are motivated to remain focused on their goals and pursue their education to the highest possible level
What does it takes to be a MENTOR:
- Between the age of 18 to 35 years old
- Be a friend
- be a Big Sister or Big Brother
- Have a warm heart
- Have a listening ear
- Have the community interests in your heart
Time commitment required in this Programme:
- Mentoring Hours : 2 hours per month (20 hours per year). Mentor are required to submit report monthly on the youths' progress)
- Developmental Hours : 20 hours per year. Activities will be organised by Youth Development Department
- Training Hours: 20 hours per year. Training will include formal training coordinated by VRD and external courses/workshops organised by partners.

BEFRIENDERS
Programme Involved in : Befrienders' Programme (under Action Plan For Strengthening Malay/Muslim Families)
Brief Description of Programme:
- The befriender programme aims to reach out to families facing multiple and entrenched problems and help them to turn their lives around.
- To help the family build their self-esteem, find hope and strength in their trying moments
- To offer support, comfort, encouragement and friendship to the family.
What does it takes to be a BEFRIENDER:
- Between the age of 35 to 55 yrs old
- Mature, understanding and approachable
- Have a strong desire to help others
- Enjoy working with families
Commitment (Responsibilities / Time) required in this Programme:
- Be matched to a family / To befriend family by contacting and encouraging the family to follow through the programmes recommended by the Social Worker at Family Service Centre.
- Provide regular updates on the family's progress to the Project Manager
- Attend training as and when required (coordinated by VRD)

TRAINERS / FACILITATORS
Programme Involved in : TIGA M (MAJU MINDA MATEMATIKA)
Brief Description of Programme:
- To increase parents knowledge and understanding of basic concept in mathematics.
- To increase parents’ confidence and skills in engaging their children in home-based activities that would develop problem solving and numeracy skills.
- To empower parents to create a home environment that is conducive to the development of children’s mathematical skills.
What does it takes to be a TIGA M TRAINER OR TIGA M FACILITATOR:
1) TIGA M TRAINERS (Trainers for parents)
- Able to share with parents the understanding about the development of Maths skills using the Mediated learning concept.
- Love working with adults and young children.
2) TIGA M FACILITATORS (Facilitators for children)
- Love working with young children.
- Able to engage with children in activities that involve exposure to Maths.
Time commitment required in this Programme:
- Volunteers who wants to be a trainer or a facilitator will have to undergo the following training:·
- Mediated Learning Experience
- Primary 1 Maths syllabus (4hours)
- Early Childhood (6hours)
- Be a shadow facilitator/trainers for a complete run (6 weeks)
- Be commited to Tiga M Programme series which consist of 3 series per year (6 sessions per series, Sessions are usually either on Saturday or Sunday).

ITE COACHES

Programme Involved in : Coaching/Mentoring for ITE Students
Brief Description of Programme:
- The programme is target for 2nd Year ITE students across the island
- Provide academic coaching and give moral support to ITE students
- Through coaching and mentoring, these students are able to complete their ITE education and thus better position them in the workforce
What does it takes to be a ITE Coach:
- Able to engage and enjoy working with youths
- Able to be a role model and impart positive influence to the youths
- Have a relevant course experience with good academic achievement
- Able to commit to the programme for 1 academic year
Time commitment required in this Programme:
- 1 academic year with 2 hrs meet-up per week (1.5hrs academic coaching & 0.5hr mentoring/sharing)
- 1 coach will be matched to 2 ITE students at one time
- Allowance will be given to coaches (terms & condition apply)
- Coaches will be given basic mentoring training
- Coaches will be required to submit updates/progress reports on a monthly basis to operating department
